Corbyn Supporters Are A Tough Bunch And Here’s Why..

This is probably the shortest blog post I’ve ever written, but why write in a 1000 words what you can say in 200. So here goes.

The right of the party have politically kneecapped Corbyn with their terribly indulgent, bullying and damaging coup. Now they are just waiting for him to stumble and fall so they can benefit from their sabotage. But he won’t fall if we hold him up. To hold him up we have to be strong. When hopelessness beckons we have to wave it away. When adversity hits we have to patch ourselves up and get back into the ring. When pundits tell us we can’t win we remind them we live in strange times. This is not a time for political safe bets or write-offs. And then we remind ourselves why we are where we are.

The reason Corbyn is so vilified by the media and PLP is because he poses a threat to the wealthy establishment. A large segment of the PLP believe Labour cannot win a GE without the tacit approval of said establishment, hence their desire to see him replaced by a leader the establishment find more palatable; someone like Blair for instance. The right of the party will NEVER accept any socialist leader for that reason, and have attacked the man rather than his politics to disguise this fundamental truth with the notable exception of Luke Akehurst (see below).

So I say let’s have the courage of our convictions. Let’s stand strong. If the only leader that will be acceptable to the PLP and establishment is another Blair or a soft left candidate like Miliband – who can be manipulated by the right wing – we must stand behind Corbyn; a leader of courage, principles and true socialist values.

It’s no picnic taking part in a democratic revolution. It might not be bloody but it’s psychologically and emotionally tough. But what’s tougher, is seeing the party you trusted to stand up for ordinary people turn its back on strikers, scapegoat immigrants, cut financial support for people on social security because it’s ‘popular’, support austerity measures which are destroying our public services and people’s lives despite the fact it makes no economic sense, follow the US into wars that cost millions of lives and destabilise entire regions, and open the door to privatisation of services that should be publicly owned and publicly run.

That’s what I call tough! Supporting Corbyn is a spring walk in the park compared to that.
